Cylinder Heads

The cylinder head on the 2001–2002 5.9L Cummins is a cast-iron, 24-valve design that seals the top of the engine block and houses the intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, rocker arms, and injector bores. Each cylinder has two intake and two exhaust valves, improving airflow and combustion compared to earlier 12-valve models.

It also contains coolant and oil passages for temperature control and lubrication. The centrally located injectors provide efficient fuel delivery. Though the factory head is strong, upgrades like stiffer valve springs, porting, and head studs are common for high-performance builds.
